Treatments
In my practice, a comprehensive head and neck exam involving a checklist
of 80 signs and symptoms on a craniomandibular/musculoskeletal survey,
a palpation exam, an evaluation of models and computerized x-rays of the
jaw joints (tomograms) is completed on each head and neck pain patient
to determine whether or not the patient can be helped by my treatment
modalities, which is neuromuscular dentistry.
Treatment involves the utilization of ADA approved, under the ADA Recognition
Program of 1984, and FDA registered, computerized instrumentation,
including muscle testing (EMG), 3-dimensional jaw tracking,
and TENS (transcutaneous electrical stimulation).
Phase I of treatment, involving an orthopedic realignment of the mandible to a
more optimal relationship to the head and neck complex, is made with a precision
orthosis, specific to the individual. When the correct realignment is completed,
there is usually alleviation of symptoms.
Phase II involves permanent stabilization of the corrected position of the
mandible with various options: removable permanent orthoses, functional
orthodontia, full mouth rehabilitation (crowns), surgery, or a combination
of these options.
Due to the complexity of the head and neck complex, best results are often
achieved in a team effort, bringing in ENT, chiropractors, acupuncturists,
osteopaths, homeopathic physicians as needed for each individual patient.
